I don't know if the other DB board members will be interested in this or not, but this is something major that may very likely be affected by the FBI's fingerprint blunder in Oregon. Recall, this was the attorney arrested for playing a role in the Madrid bombing because the FBI stated his fingerprint was found on a plastic bag, while it was later determined not to be.
Several years ago a wacko attorney was able to persuade a judge to make a ruling that a fingerprint examiner could not state in court that it was fact a particular fingerprint came from a particular person. The ruling would have made it so that such a statement could only be made as an opinion and with no basis in science.
After this judge made this ruling, the FBI gathered a group of scientists and met with this judge and persuaded him how fingerprints are unique to the person and the judge overruled his own ruling. That was very quite rare for a judge to do.
Now, the implications of what happened in Oregon could be huge for the entire criminal justice system. And this is probably due to our collective "sky is falling" and a "terrorist behind every tree" knee jerk thoughts.
Now this same attorney will probably latch on to this case and have new fuel for his fire, all because of idiotic blunders in our "war on terror."
