What is your line of work? I have taken many courses in pain management. I find it really interesting. Some of the doctors sure could use some training on the more current issues dealing with pain. (Hope your not a doc!) But if you are, good on you for continuing your education and getting the most current information. I currently am a med/surg nurse at Kaiser. I am really satisfied the way the doctors are ordering their pain management for post op patients. The hospital where I worked before Kaiser, there were many doctors that were still using IM demerol! I have seen a couple patients have seizures from IV demerol. I have never even seen demerol used at Kaiser or for that matter any IM pain meds ordered. It is all PCA, IV push or PO. Usually morphine or dilaudid. Hope you are in the field so that you can understand all the lingo. If not, let me know and I'll explain. Tell me more about your course that you are taking. I've always been very interested in pain management. I even thought of going into hospice nursing for terminally ill patients. I look forward to hearing about your course.
