I want to let our American friends in on a bit ofd info on the "strike." We did indeed have a strike here in British Columbia, but I supported it. Our provincial government has decimated the poor/working class in order to appease the socially elite that bankrolled their campaign in the last election.
My wife and I have a household income of $50g. WE are barely above the poverty level here as we struggle to raise our 2 kids. We are taxed HEAVILY. My take home pay is ~%65 of my gross, and we have 14.5% sales tax on top of that for retail purchases.
The hospital staff was looking at massive layoffs and wage cuts. They stood their ground and refused to plow under. In the end, the two sides agreed on a new contract, both giving in a bit. Shortly after, the goverment announced huge pay increases for many Ministry of Health heads. Needless to say, many union employees are rightfully pissed.
This gov't is in for a major fight next provincial election. The working class are tired of being kicked in the heads and pocketbook.
Sorry for the rant.
Prayers that Kyle is doing well. We have a first class medical system here in Canada. Warts and all.
