you guys are truly something.
Robert, hello, and thank you!...glad you know the Flowers, their new one bouyed me a lot this weekend.
Mick, there are pints and giggles in our future someday...(after your de-lousing, of course)...
Peter, i appreciate your words of concern, and they do help. it has been tough but there is a weird sort of okayness in it that he's slowly finding...which i'm so glad he is sharing with me...it's a long story, as these kinds of endings always have. we're having dinner tomorrow night, then a drink or two at his place, play some of our latest tunes for each other (he's a very talented songwriter, we spent 6 years in a modern rock band called Beat Senseless...if my songs are any good at all it's because of what i absorbed from him), and i'll give him a double DVD of this rippin' artist i'm fond of, whose work he already knows and loves (cuz i dragged him to see this guy at Slim's like, 10 years ago)...and i will continue to check in on him. it's draining but we'll get through..
as for the weekend trip - it was fantastic. a long hike up and in, a tired Friday night...but bacon, eggs and buttered toast to start Saturday...a jaunt up 11,000' Ragged Peak, a picnic on top...a scree-sliding descent with a long standing glissade down a big snow patch...a refreshing plunge into middle Young Lake...an amorous nap...a trippy little late afternoon stroll around the lake, drinking fresh glacier melt and chasing small trout down the streams...a heavy but necessary relationship talk....then the beauteous calm of a brilliant pink and orange sunset, with a small fire and a big meal, red wine toasts to the recently departed, whiskey toasts to some board members here (you know who you are and if you don't you should), lots of gentleness and long conversation and love, while shooting stars ripped the sky like a sheet...the blessed feeling of being present, grounded and...happy somehow, cause once you get through the necessary struggles, you can finally just sit back up there and recharge. i got what i went for, and even though it would have been terribly noisy, kinda wished you all were there...so...thanks. i think that storm has passed.
