Are you upset because their spirits are high or because the NYT reported it?
The Times has always had a tradition of naming people with "Mr." or "Mrs." or "Ms." If you look back you'll find Mr. Sadr in company with Mr. Hussein, Mr. Hitler, Mr. Kerry, & Mr. Bush. I don't think there's an editorial board determining who's thuggish enough to warrent omitting the honorifics.
