For one, I believe that when the investigation is done, there is going to be a great deal more to this story.

Many questions need to be answered - for example, how did so called "amateur" document examiner bloggers come to their examinations so quickly?  It is not easy to examine documents and it is time consuming.  It seems like they had some sort of heads up on this story and leads one to ask, how can that be?

A second issue is that I do not know of any credible document examiners who will base their reputation on an examination of a copy or fax of a suspected document.   Examiners, if at all possible, want the original and usually if that is not available, caveats will be made.

Other issues include things like, what if CBS had the documents and questioned others such as the secretary and did not pass along that they were typed, when she would have been familiar with them only as handwritten.  Recall, she stated that the content of the documents were factual, but should have been in hand written form.

One more issue is when CBS showed the documents to a handwriting examiner, that examiner examined the signature and probably not the type face/fonts.

I wholeheartedly agree that CBS did not do a complete investigation of these documents, but as of this time, the investigation is not complete and all of the reasons for this failure are not known yet.

Heck, everyone wants to crucify Rather, but what if the producer of the story reassured Rather that a thorough and complete investigation was done.
