I spent a couple hours today reformatting our home desktop computer.  It had been rendered useless by a severe case of popup ads which slowed the processor to a crawl.  Of course, one of the popup ads was one which guaranteed to speed up your computer and another was an add to get rid of popups.

I'd just replaced a failed hard drive in it two weeks ago and never got around to installing my favorite spyware software; that being Spybot Search and Destroy and another program called Adaware.  They're both free downloads.  I also use the Google toolbar with built in popup blocker and that seems to work very well.
