This is my first presidential election in which I can vote as a US citizen (naturalized in 2001 from Canada).  I think I understand a good bit about the American political system, but I am in the dark about some issues. Help me out. 

It looks like the House will be clearly still under Republican domination.  The Senate will be closer, but again a Republican edge.  Sooo...should Kerry get elected, he will have an uphill battle with new bills, correct?   He will need strong bipartisan support.  What happens in a situation like that?
