Why is it that so many conservatives seem to have "death bed" conversians at the end of their career? (i.e., Jesse Helms, Lee Atwater, George Wallace, et cetera)

Henry Hyde, a long term rep from my state (and one who was able to portray himself as a grandparent like folk hero simply because of his head of white hair - just like that phoney Barbara Bush) now says the impeachment of Clinton was payback for Nixon's impeachment and he probably wouldn't do it again.

This is the same asshole family values sort who claimed breaking up a marriage through an affair at the age of forty was his youthful indescretion.
