It's midnight here and we've just got in after seeing an awesome performance by Rob Hirst and Paul Greene. I bought their CD (In the stealth of summer) a month ago, but live was another level again. The rhythm that Rob Hirst normally employs on a drum kit was evident in his guitar playing. He did play a snambourine (?) - a cross between a snare drum and a tambourine - for a couple of tracks, and managed to make it sound like a full drum kit anyway...
The venue was a coffee warehouse and there were only 70 tickets available. We got to sit about 3 metres from the performers - sort of like I imagine the Steamboat shows must have been like?
They were both excellent musicians and singers, and played (and bantered) very well together. They supported Ani di Franco when she came to Australia and dedicated one of the songs to her.
If they get to the US and you like great acoustic guitars and wonderful harmonies, go see them!
Goodnight!
