What I'm saying as I said in another post is that this was a dog and pony show for the inspectors put on by the officials in Iraq and coordinated by Sadaam. I think even Blix himself admitted that they were not in total control of the inspections.

There was no dog and pony show with the inspections. As we've seen the inspectors were correct and told the truth, there was no evidence Iraq had restarted a WMD program or even had the potential to do so. You wanna talk dog and pony show, the big dog and pony show was what Colin Powell did at the UN with George Tenet  strapped into the seat behind him for good measure. The pile of half truths, falsehoods, and outright giant lies they spewed was truly disgusting. Not even Saddam lied to the UN like that...that flushing sound you could hear in the background was Powell's reputation and Tenet's soon to be over career going right down the ol' hopper.

The U.N has brought on itself a lot of the criticism by it's  ineffective methods of enforcing sanctions. They were an easy target

As I've said on many occasions, the United States has never cared about UN sanctions unless they worked in our favor...look at the record...the facts...the UN has bombed Israel for decades with this type of paperwork and they may as well have been sending them Christmas cards. The thing you have to keep in mind here, Pat, is the UN is not one of the worlds superpowers...the US is...and without US backing, UN sanctions are not really worth anything. The UN is supposed to be a group of nations working together, including the US, but the US uses it only to achieve it's own goals...never more so than now. So, it's really the US that let's the UN down when it fails to back enforcing sanctions...so the discussion about the UN "bringing it on themselves" is utter nonsense.
