Since I've been away for a couple weeks, don't know if this has been covered yet:
"The 77-year-old composer Burt Bacharach is not known for his politics. During the protests against the Vietnam war, he was writing, "I'll never forget the moment we kissed the night of the hay ride/ The way that we hugged to try to keep warm while takin' a sleigh ride."But the man who brought you these "Magic Moments," "Alfie," "What the World Needs Now is Love," and "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head," has had enough. His latest album, At This Time, out at the end of the month, strikes a different note, with his own lyrics about "this stupid mess we're in" and lines like: "Seems like these liars will inherit the earth."In a September interview with the Independent (It's worth reading the whole thing : http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/music/interviews/article312673.ece) Bacharach said: I think Bush is just about the poorest president we've ever had. You'd have to go back before I was born to find a worse one. ...If he'd said just once: 'Boy. I hope you accept my apology as a country,' or showed some humanity..."Bachrach is loved up, down, and across middle America. I haven't heard the album yet, but if it contains anything nearly as catchy as his older tunes, perhaps Bacharach can get the whole country bopping around to a new anti-war American anthem."
