Walked into the record shop today to pick up the new Ulrich Schauss when they were playing Neil Diamonds's new disc. Sure enough I walked out with a copy. Yes it's one of those horrible Copy Controlled, but needless to say, it's some pretty damn good songs from one of the best. Rick Rubin spins his magic again. A stripped down affair, much like a John Prine recording. "Evermore", "Captain Of A Shipwreck" and "Face Me" are second spin stand outs. Billy Preston, Mike Campbell, Bentmount Tench, Smokey Hormel, Lenny Castro, Patrick Warren and Brian Wilson guests. The Brian Wilson track is only availble on the limited version. It's a glorious thing to hear Brian doing his best Beach boys arangement and harmony to the track. Most definately one of the year's best.
