For the record, DYI!, the great book about the LA punk scene, written
by the estimable, if wholly corrupt Brendan Mullen, quite rightly called
us the worst band to ever take any stage anywhere at any point in
history, Or something along those lines. (That was when we called
ourselves the Spastics.) We were genuinely terrible. Every show with
that band was a form of divine agony. Out of shame, I took to singing,
not from the stage, but from dark tables, booths, wherever I could
hide the best. The band lasted much too long, but we were pals since
elementary school, some of us, and it was hard to just let it go.
