I was never very good at geography either - thanks for the concern. Luckily, where I live is not in a cyclone prone area. We had one come through when I was in High School - I can remember heaps of dust and wind and a very eerie cast to the sky.
My sister-in-law and her family live in Karratha (a couple of thousand km N of here) and they regularly endure cyclones - it's a part of life for them. All of their houses have cyclone shutters and are built to withstand the gales.
