I think we have to keep in mind that country music postures itself as being "rebellious" music, sung by smiling-faced scoundrels ready to "put a boot up yer a**."
It is therefore only fitting that so many country artists appeal so vociferously to patriotism, since as we well know, an appeal to patriotism is the last (and often first) resort of a scoundrel.
