Imagine if you will: Two years from now, we've annihilated Saddam's army and several thousand civilians along the way, suffering hundreds of casualties. In a last-gasp effort to sabotage western interests, Hussein orders that all Iraqi oil wells be set ablaze as they had done in Kuwait. Black smoke clouds the skies, and engineers estimate it will be five years before the majority of the fires can be extinguished.
With no clear follow-up plan, and no leadership to take charge in the now leaderless country, rebellion reigns. Children continue to starve to death from malnourishment as the donated foodstuffs rot or are stolen by tribal warlords. Hatred toward the US festers in the Muslim community, providing al Queda with thousands of willing recruits. Suicide bombings multiply in Israel, and soon spread to Europe and against US interests across the globe.
As has been the case in Desert Storm and Vietnam, thousands of American veterans complain of unexplained illnesses and start dropping dead at young ages due to cancer and respiratory ailments. As par normal, the military denies them proper medical care, claiming that there is no proof of cause.
Meanwhile, former Iraqi officers and scientists reveal how close we were to pinpointing the exact location and identification of all of their efforts to develop WOMD. They describe in great detail how the forced ouster of Saddam was in the works through a consortium of Arab nations.
Let's imagine for a moment that we're living two years later and our government has executed an attack on Iraq because we suspected they planned some horrific terrorist act against us. I'd like the chickenhawk’s opinion on what it is you thought this would accomplish? Shouldn’t we have tried to put some teeth behind the weapons inspections? Shouldn’t we have just dismissed the whole idea as politics by the bushies to drum up votes? I'm really curious how you would have handled this situation differently.
There's no reason to be rude in your response - I'm simply posing a question that may strike a nerve for some reason.
