db, I'm still sifting through some of the demographics, etc. It's interesting to know (I didn't) that there are more independent voters in CT than either registered Dems or Reps - although I know several who changed to Dems to vote in the primary. The Dem party leader I spoke with yesterday said that in some ways, the primary is possibly not as strong an indicator as we may like - it used to be held in Sept but ever since they changed it to Aug, the turnout is way down (vacations, kids at home, the heat).

As far as smearing Lamont, Lieberman smells desperate to me and we know that desperate people do despicable things. (There are already accusations of anti-semitism -oy) What Lamont is going to have to do is be precise and come up with plans and details about those plans. I think that the campaign will broaden beyond Iraq and those other positions will be crucial to the electorate. However, I think whoever's running Lamont's campaign has done a great job with tv ads and other outreach.

I don't know much about the Rep candidate - Schlesinger? - so I think in many ways, November will be a Lamont/Lieberman rematch. Our popular Rep governor Jodi Rell is up for re-election and she may have some coat tails, though.

Meanwhile, speaking of expedient, Hillary Clinton's PAC has just sent Lamont a check for five grand.

It's gonna get interesting.
