you know, mick, i'm right with you on this. i watched 60 minutes last night and they had a story about the 3,000 kids left without a parent on 9/11 (they called it the 9/11 generation and first of all, since when is 3,000 an entire generation). i'm not a grinch but these kids are going to special camps, getting counseling, being supported and mentored through college and beyond - which is a wonderful thing -- but also an unbelievable privilege that those children in Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan - let's add Darfur and the AIDS-ravanged African continent - are not. we in the west certainly should take care of our own but if indeed, as marshall mcluhan posited, we live in a global village, then those children are our responsibility, too.
