That's kinda like suing gun manufacturers because some idiot cleaned his pistol with a round still in the chamber and shot himself, or his kid started playing with Dad's loaded weapon stash and blew his friend away.

It's not the car maker's that are causing California's pollution. It's the Californians (and everybody else) who buy and drive them that do. And how cool would it be to kick the american automobile industry while it's down!? Yeah! That should help the economy!

To any Californian that got behind this peice-o-crap legislation I'd say go get yourself a horse or a bicycle if you got somewhere to go and you need clean air. The horses can help you make all of your food on your myriad of self sustaining farms too. Then go and declare your independence from the union. I'm sure you'll get plenty of flyover country support.
