I'm a long time DB music fan, Pat. I've always kept up with the site, and I've lurked for years - mostly to hear about when new musical releases would come. Recent discussion has been vigorous and interesting, so I joined. It's a little addictive, so perhaps I've over-posted.
We all hang our alter ego out here. Except for me. I just say what I say all day to everyone :). And David really likes me, he mostly kids around.
I don't really share many of David's political views nor his penchant for conspiracy-think, but I do think that a healthy dose of "questioning" is worthwhile.
I'm think I'm the only reality check he has. You know I was listening to Welcome to the Boomtown and Swallowed by the Cracks today thinking damn when is that 2nd Album coming out from David and David? Christ it has been 20 years.
For the record, I have never registered as either a Democrat or a Republican because (in my mind) logic dictates that both traditional and progressive views have their merits depending on circumstance. I believe in phasing the world toward free trade, and I appreciate the benefits of competition in the economy. On the other hand, I've seen first hand the benefits provided by government works (the Interstate, National Parks, other programs) so as to be unconvinced by the all out Libertarians. I trust neither ultra-liberal progressives (who I often feel are fascist) nor ultra-religious conservatives (ditto). I work in the energy industry, but I support conservation and drive a relatively efficient car. I recycle vigorously. My work takes me to nearly every continent, and I've seen first hand the effect of most styles of government (with the exception of most of Africa). I have family by marriage in Venezuela and family at the cousin level (on my side) from Canada, Ecuador, Iran, New Zealand, and the UK. Their views inform my own to some degree. I've lived overseas (and also in Oregon, Connecticut, Kentucky, and Texas) and really, REALLY appreciate what we have in America. But the abundance of opportunity available here requires one to make hard decisions favoring quality over quantity, taste over Britney Spears, etc. etc.
Have I bored you yet?
Thanks for the information. Welcome aboard
