He'll be found guilty on Sunday, just 2 days before our elections. The result will be, of course, some sort of vindication of Bush's war in Iraq.

Of course, the verdict could have been delayed until Wednesday, but someone over in Iraq wants to help Bush.

In a case where a number of defense lawyers have been killed, a judge has quit over political interference in the case, a PM who ignores judicial independence and wants Saddam to swing, and a population in the midst of civil war and which no longer cares about Saddam's fate, and the fact that execution will be delayed because of numerous other trials, it seems plausible to me that a verdict could and should be delayed until after our elections.

But no. This will be just the boost the GOP needs, even if they have been distancing themselves from the Iraq war. Watch all of them on Sunday/Monday proclaim that Saddam's overthrow was, in light of the conviction, the right thing to do.
