Apparently, Howie died of a heroin OD, Feb 24,2003. I was unaware of this until today, when a friend sent me an Email.  He was the bassist for Tom Petty from 1982 onwards, and a record producer as well.  I don't know too much about him, and don't really follow TP all that much either.  Aside from "She's the One", the last TP record I own is "Damn the Torpedos", and on that one, I believe Ron Blair played Bass.  Howies' "significant other" was Carlene Carter.

Just thought this might be of interest to any TP fans out there.
