Guitars are meant to be plucked, not slapped...that's what drums are for.  During my course with Preston, I was sitting there with about a dozen other people, our guitars tuned down to some sort of drone thing, clapping our hands down in odd positions on the neck to get some rhythmic chiming sounds, and I thought to myself WTF??? am I doing this for?   Since then, I don't do 'dat.  I do incorporate some finger 2 hand stuff (which I mainly picked up from listening to Eddie Van Halen) but that's about it.
