20+ years, indeed. he ran for mayor against my old man in 1979, came in 4th with between 6 and 8,000 votes. soon after, pops got a bill through the Board of Stupidvisors that stipulated that one had to run for public office under one's real name (in Jello's case, Eric Boucher): 'No more Sister Boom-Booms and Jello Biafras,' was one his quotes, i believe. pops eventually narrowly lost in the run-off to a creature named Dianne Feinstein (they'd gone on a date once in the 60's, but that's truly a story for another time).

i did take my dad to see him one night - and they are viewed as pretty darn opposite on the poli scales - but he got a kick out of a lot of it, and we went backstage later to say hi. they actually got along well, exchanging little nuggets and making Feinstein cracks (Jello opined that she's actually an old Chicago ward boss - just take off the wig and give her a cigar and it'll be obvious). quintessential SF moment. :)
