Ed, there is very little information that i could find to show that there was a bloodbath in vietnam after we left...you may be right although i'm hesitant to believe things went so well for those left behind. i did find an interesting and seemingly well researched site with respect to war dead during the last century and among the statistics was this line..."Finally, I can calculate the overall democide of Vietnam in the post-Vietnam War period (lines 762 to 764). This amounts to 346,000 to 2,438,000 Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Laotians, probably about 1,040,000." that to me would qualify as a bloodbath but you may choose to discount the site and any of its findings.
