Great article.

I disagree, as the author is comparing apples and oranges.  Coulter's use of the word in a speech to a PAC is significantly different than a blog (and I don't care if it's left or right leaning) not censoring an anonymous, yet offensive, posting.  However, neither use of the word is acceptable in the least.

Just because Patrick Goodenough (is that really his name?) found 3 whole instances of "Faggot" on dailykos doesn't excuse Ann the Man from using it.  It's still name calling, it's still taunting, and it's still the lowest form of political discourse.  Kind of like calling someone a fucking idiot without responding to the points they make or don't make.

The other significant difference is that Coulter used it specifically to insult and humiliate Edwards, where many of  the other references cited were not specific.  And what's with Goodenough referencing another blog by using JPG's of the page?  Link to the damned page so we can see the whole post!!

Again, no use of the word should be tolerated, but let's stop playing this "they did it first" game.  Pretty soon we'll all think it's OK to threaten decapitation with lawn and garden implements.  Oh, wait....
