Pretty much he sealed the deal after lunch when asked directly who assembled the list of US Attorneys to be fired he said he did not know. It was pointed out to him that nobody at justice, including Kyle Sampson the person Gonzales says was in charge of this project, could say where "the list" came from and Gonzales had pretty much no response. His "I don't recall" total is now over 100 (75 times according to the peanut gallery) and the bottom line is Gonzales says he does not know anything about the process of how these US Attorneys came to be on a list to be fired and can add no new information on what happened. He claims not to know what has gone on in his own department even with his closest personal subordinates. The calls for his resignation came from both Republicans and Democrats and reports out of the White House say that they were horrified by his testimony. The level of disgust on both sides of the aisle due to Gonzales basically doing his best Sgt. Shultz - "I know nothing!" - grew to the point where they just ended the questioning and walked away. Goodling, whose name came up several times, is sure to be offered immunity at this point and she is the clear link between Rove and the White House. Rove's name also came up enough today to assure that they push for his testimony and part of the Attorney General's testimony linked Rove to what has gone on. I have to say that Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse did an outstanding job with his part of the hearing today and even appeared to quote me! Ha ha ha...---------------Reg: Willy nilly firing of attorneys would be a complete manipulation and destruction of the justice system. http://dbinfosource.com/board/37908&author=Reg
---------------If you get a chance to hear Whitehouse questioning Gonzales you will hear him use this in addressing the same topic I was in that post - the misuse of the "pleasure of the president" thing - so I think Sheldon is a Baerwald fan because he must have come here to read that! Here's a little of Mr. Whitehouse today:
