Last night I gathered my inner fortitude and popped in Downfall. Downfall is the story of the last 10- 12 days for Hitler and the Third Reich. Set mostly in Hitler's bunker the players come and go.

I was very impressed with this piece of film making. Bruno Ganz as Hitler heads a very strong cast. Humanizing these historical monsters I'm sure is no small feat. The Making Of doc on the DVD goes very deeply into many of the actors and the moral, ethical and personal challenges that this film brought to them.

The director and writer stressed that the only way they would do this was to make it as real as possible.

I walked into the video store wanting something big loud and stupid....I picked Ghost Rider (I like Cage channeling Elvis). The clerk, a proud nerd, risked his job by telling me flat out that he hated to have to charge me money for Ghost Rider as it was the worst thing he'd ever seen. I took him up on his warning and somehow ended up with Downfall (I had been wanting to see it).

That kid.... Nerd Hero.

And 300..... Gloriously over the top and fun.
