I'm thinking too of intentional polio-ization of blankets for the natives, enslavement of peoples based on absolute nonsense notions of race and/or color, and average lifespans being rather brutish, nasty, and short. I just don't see any golden age in the past. It's probably the result of doing more reading than is good for me.

Which is not to say that I don't want things (whatever "things" may mean) to get better . . .
