Is DSL a mind blower or what?! My word!
It would have taken to days to DL that clip Eric, wowser.
The answer is: a change in American foreign policy(Pax Americana). That change
occurred
after Desert Storm while GHW was still in office, and Cheney as his Sec of Defense,
commissioned Rumsfeld to come up with what later evolve into Rebuilding American
Defenses(aka the PNAC paper). If you go to pnac.org please go to the trouble of discovering
the founding members of that think tank. That too is an eye opener when one considers the
positions many of them held at the outset of this administration. Too, that foreign policy
position paper would make sense of the why's of the past 6 1/2 years; and give more than a
clue as to where we(as a nation) are headed, along with why this Administration has
occasionally dropped into public statements Americans should expect to be in this mess for
the next century(meaning Iraq and the near east).
I think the analysist's analysis, and Olbermans' use of it, is inaccurate, or at the least, thin
wishful thinking.
Clinton's win in '92 is all that stopped that policy from being acted upon sooner; so
overtly
anyhow. There are those that argue that Clinton was merely putting other pieces into place in
preparation.
Once again, it sorta makes Rumsfeld look as if he was in charge. Regardless, part of the
thinking was that: since the Iron Curtain had fallen things needed to be rethought, with the
idea of how the 21st century could be assured to be another American Century.
Someone should fill in the correct psychological terminology for that sort of mindset.
Please
even.
