Well, if anyone cares, it's official . . . I am giving up on Windows Vista. The current machine is the THIRD new computer I've had Vista installed on in two months, and the experience has been so unsatisfactory that the term "unsatisfactory" doesn't cover it.My problems with Vista break down into three subcategories:1. It won't run my software.
2. It won't run my hardware.
3. It freezes up each time I'm away from the desk for a couple of minutes. (Sometimes freezing right here in front of me.)So after spending over an hour on the phone with Dell today, they are shipping me a brand new copy of XP to install on this machine.I simply cannot believe the amount of time I willingly sacrificed in the past two months, trying to get Windows Vista to work for me.I'm told that part of the functionality issue is the result of software that had been loaded on another machine already. The Dell rep said that if it had been loaded on another machine before, then Vista will not run it. This is how Microsoft intends to get rid of "pirate" software. Well I don't HAVE any "Pirate" software (unless you count Sid Meiers' Pirates, but my copy is legal, matey!). All of my software was bought fair and square, and just because I had it installed on the computer I'm now replacing, I fail to see why that's any of Vista's business!I'm obviously just venting, but maybe someone here will find my experience worth knowing about.Herring405
