Agree entirely, Dale. One area of recurring irritation in that regard, is the way Hollywood does US southern accents.  They usually use a stereotyped southern accent that bears no resemblance whatsoever to reality.  Have any of these actors, directors, actually spent time in the Southern US??  Why not use southern actors?  Duh...

On that note...RUN to your nearest video store, and rent CORNDOG MAN. Came out in about 1999.   Very dark comedy....real Southern accents, real actors.  It's one of the rare instances in which I bought a film from Blockbuster after renting it. I also bought the last 2 copies they had in the used bin, for friends.  Unfortunately, it's hard to find.  You may, or may not like the film (I think it's superb), but you will have to admit, those are authentic accents, and not faked in the least.  I used to live in North Carolina, right on the South Carolina border, and it felt like I was being transported back immediately.
