Sure you could spin the concept and say why not use Iraqi oil proceeds to help pay for the liberation, but can you not see the other view? Many people, including myself, felt that a large part of the motivation for the invasion was to gain access/control of the world's second largest oil reserves. During the "drum up support for the war phase" all we heard was "Saddam the evil" and "saving the Iraqis" with precious little about the oil, now we hear, oh by the way we'll need to control Iraqi oil for some time to come . . . can you see how we can come to the conclusion that something fishy is going on?
