Icon Speaking of "America the Beautiful"...

Another great rendition is by the late, great bassist and composer, Jaco Pastorius.  One of my most beloved musical heroes.  He recorded it on several CD's including the bootlegs, and I think the only "official" release was on the Columbia recording (I forget the name, but it was his last album with them), and documented part of his infamous Japanese tour in 1981.  Now talk about beauty which will/could reduce one to tears.  Wow.

Despite his personal torment, there was an intense inner quiet and sensitivity expressed in many of his compositions, but the ones that  always give me gooseflesh, at any rate, are "Portrait of Tracy" and "Forgotten Love", both from his stunning debut release. A "must" for your CD/record collection.

As Jaco used to say, "It ain't braggin' if you can back it up", and boy could he ever back it up!
