Now that I'm so very in-sync with our dear friend Cyan-aura, I'll offer that I think the message had to do with the concept of putting up "what's on your iPod, Bruce?" as opposed to "are iPods any good or not?"

"What's on your iPod" is the gimmick, not the iPods themselves.

Admittedly, wild misinterpretations of the original missive are possible, but I think I've nailed it down (and Cy will tell me if I'm wrong).

As for me, I guess it is at least mildly entertaining to see a list of songs that are on the iPod of someone whose songwriting I admire, respect, want more of, etc. Particularly when some of those songs are done by yet another person whose songwriting I admire, respect, and want more of.

Right now, my own iPod is set on "random" and stuffed with Baerwald, Sheryl Crow, Gentle Giant, the Tories, Vince Gill, Thelonious Monk, Tom Petty, ELO, The Move, David Gilmore, King Crimson, Lyle Lovett, Chris Knight, Monty Python, Midlake, Built to Spill, The Traveling Wilburies, and Apocalyptica (metallica done by four cellists).

In all of that, my ears always perk up when I hear the opening strains of David Baerwald doing "I Won't Back Down" in his inimitable manner. I am hoping for more recordings in that vein (on the "some day" plan, of course).

Hey David . . . gimmick or not, what's on YOUR iPod? :)
