First up; you are assuming her politics, which are not mentioned in the article or in any of the reports I've seen. She could just as easily be a right to lifer attempting to generate the exact outrage and press that you see. It would not be the first time the media has been manipulated by a savvy artist. Second; It's a Performance Art piece - Tasteless? Crude? Disgusting? Over the top? Oh Hell Yes on all counts. But the point of performance art is to provoke a reaction and discussion - to make you think. My take is that the press release (and possibly the university's reaction) was planned beforehand as part of the project. I'm sure she considers this as succeeding beyond her plans.Third; Assuming that she actually did do all she claims (and I seriously doubt it) There have not been any laws broken. I'm sure that is another aspect of the project's scope and expected reaction.Fourth; At it's core THIS IS A MANIPULATION. She is playing the press for all they are worth and succeeding.Now excuse me - I'm going to smear shit all over myself and tell people it's chocolate pudding.
