I'm having a bit of a tough time with the new REM. Someone else here may have already said it, but it's like they sat down and decided to make an album that sounds like what old REM fans want (much like what U2 appeared to have done with their last 2). There's nothing really that bad on it, but nothing compels me to do much with what I'm hearing. Mebbe it's just me, but so far I'd rather spin up Fables, Reckoning, or Green.I also picked up In Rainbows the other day, and I have to admit that I still just don't get Radiohead. I can't connect with the lyrics and it's more soundwashing than music to me. I had the same experience with Amnesiac. The wife and I will be seeing the B-52's with Cyndi Lauper this summer. Imagine my suprise when I found out after buying the tickets that it's a "gay-friendly" event MC'd by Rosie O'Donnell. Hopefully the B's will be in fine form and I can overlook the Lauper set and O'Donnell's nonsense enough to have a good time.On a similar note, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens just announced their summer series, which includes Buddy Guy, John Hiatt, Lucinda Williams, Jerry Jeff Walker, Shawn Colvin, and KT Tunstall. It's a terrific outdoor venue, with the audience (of less than 4000) on a small lawn right in front of the stage, surrounded by the grandeur of the Botanical Gardens, all for what seems a paltry $35. If you're ever in the ATL on a summer Friday it's a great place to spend a few hours. We've been there to see Buddy and Hiatt (with the North Mississippi Allstars backing!!) in years past, and I hope to repeat them, along with Lu Williams and maybe Shawn Colvin--although I've heard she tends to get a bit neurotic onstage and the shows can be hit and miss.
