It's not that, Marc.  It's that the relation was so inappropriate, random, and rude.  I was really offended by it, and it wasn't even about me. (!)  I just don't think any disagreement with David's comments (or lyrics) justified what was really just a thinly disguised character assassination. 

The best thing to do is not to explain motive.  Just apologize profusely and move on.  David doesn't need me to defend him, but this is something that needs to be said.
