this is going to be difficult for you to hear, but: as long as the ultra-rich do not recognize the burden they place on the remaining 99% residue of humanity, we, the core citizenry, will decline perpetually, prostrate at the feet of economic privation; even with the cyclic upslope of economic optimism (as will likely come when the “new boss’ is sworn in). It is pragmatic to say a person should be able to squeeze all they can out of this (monetary) life if they have the ambition and the wherewithal. True. I feel that’s a correct statement, as well. & it was a happenin’ run for a time there when we spoke of wealth in millions, but its become something to the inverse now that the greatest of all our affluent’s affluent are tallying profits & expenditures in the billions. I mean come-on they had a cartoon "short" about it in the 70s for Pete’s sake. It really isn’t that difficult to fathom. There’s only so much milk shake, …only so many straws. You can tell a toddler that, and the toddler (almost) gets it, …but try to tell a senator, a corporate raider, or the sons of a corporate raider, banker, retired conglomerate CEO…& the next golden parachute…& the next golden parachute………..& the next bonus for downsize design…………………
I say: Be rich. It’s the birthright of the ambitious. But don’t be a vampire to the remaining salt-of-the-earth. People I know don’t ask for anything BUT the bulk of the money they earn, the land they tend, and the homes they shelter their families in. & it’s harder than it’s ever been, even though the rich are the richest they’ve ever been. One does not have to be Ivy League educated to recognize the paradigm. Nope. Part of being affluent is being responsible, noble, …& its not EVER …just business. It gets more and more personal every day. You can smell it in the air: Like a burning belt on a loose pulley. People are stretched.
