On snag, the article says: "But voters really want to know one thing: How would the presidential candidates' views trickle down to their tax bills?"
But the fact is that only the House of Representatives can bring tax bills. The Democrats will likely keep control of the House, so one would think that Obama could push through his proposals. McCain, on the other hand, would be stuck vetoing proposals.
But McCain's proposed cut on the corporate tax rate is a good idea when viewed through a competitive lense of other countries' rates. That said, the deficit makes it clear that tax revenue must rise whether through increased rates, an improved economy, or both.
I don't think either candidate has quite hit on an ideal scenario yet. But it's clear that the upper middle class (generally Republican supporters, $200,000 or so per year) don't have a huge amount to fear from Obama. I wonder if that message will get through?
