I'm with you on those two points although I'm not sure our rail system is anywhere near big enough or well-maintained enough to handle that kind of traffic. It would be interesting to see what the cost would be to retrofit. Obviously, we can't use indentured Chinese servants to lay new rail.
Interesting idea, though. I can't dismiss it out of hand.
I'm a supporter of using government standards to weed out all the SUV's used as 1-2 person city vehicles. It's absurd. On the other hand, I'll defend my sister's family (6 kids) right to use one in rural Idaho.
