First listen, then, we'll talk about it. Saw him in concert last eve. Superb. Stripped down,
acoustic, with the other guitar player from Red House Painters. For years, I have loved his wistful,
twinged melodies, but could never hear the words due to his drone like mumbling. Only after
discovering a fan site with the lyrics laid out, could I "get it", and I've been knocked out. It's
from the CD, Ghosts of the Great Highway. Highly recommended. Very profound song themes,
many of 'em dealing with life/death and death at a young age, apparently in response to 911. He
deals a great bit with boxers who lost their lives in the ring and other circumstances at a young
age, and on the boxing theme includes Cassius Clay and Sonny Liston (don't know where this
boxing obsession came from, but it is unusual in song, unless you include the Simon and
Garfunkle Boxer..). Great imagery, great nuances. i'm rediscovering it. I had shelved it for a
while simply because beyond the nice melodies, I couldn't hear the words! I'll let you listen for a while, then post the lyrics. You'll be surprised. You cannot, hear them on a
first listen very clearly, and I never fully understood what the song was about...until now.
Goosebumps baby, goosebumps...
