McCain's career as a Senator has been defined largely by his deregulation policies. The Depression- era protections written into the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 were removed in a bill written mostly by McCain's good friend and former chief economic advisor Phil Gramm. (And signed stupidly by Bill Clinton) McCain is trying to run from his record. Don't let him.
