"Democrats had a true chance to shine but could only muster 60% of their own party for support."

Only about 1/3 of House Republicans voted in favor. What's your point? The failure of the bailout bill to pass is the result of 40% of Democrats, and not 67% of Republicans?

Both parties had compelling reasons to vote against this. The Republican responses I heard/read indicated that there really still is some fiscal conservancy alive and well in the US, and a desire to rein in the size and scope of the federal government. The Democratic naysayers don't want to let irresponsible businesses off the hook for years of poor decisions and non-existent risk management.

The market's going to be on a roller-coaster for a while, in the general direction of down. Fasten your seat belts, tighten your belts, and think---what did my grandparents/great-grandparents do in the 30's? Because we're probably going to need to do the same thing.
