Ross, this is America's experiment with Socialism. Maybe it's what the people want, or what they think
they want. Time will tell.An Obama presidency, which seems forthcoming will do the following:1. Increase taxation of the wealthy (which includes folks/businesses I would not call "wealthy") ,
with the proceeds going towards the 2-3 K he promises the "middle class" ie the masses. So, most
people like that. It runs against the grain of a Capitalist framework, but this is not 1950 or 1960,
so perhaps this is the natural evolution of the populace orientation. What I detest most about his
taxation scheme is that it goes against the small business striving to do better. It encourages
indolence and the "dole". Bad idea, IMHO. But, again, for the masses, this seems attractive.
2. His health care plan is the first essential step towards a rational socialized Health Care scheme
and at least some of his proposal in that regard I applaud (ie the availability of the same level of
care for Govt' Employees for currently uninsured); but if there is any truth to the "penalization"
clause, I abhor it. He denied the penalty thing in the debate. I hope he will be honest and abide by
what he has laid out.
3. He will promote diplomacy, which on surface is attractive, but history has shown "negotiating"
with dangerous adversaries...well, a dangerous approach.
4. A clearly positive note: An Obama President will be applauded by most world nations. the USA,
will finally..and probably for the first time, become a world community member, instead of an
outsider. Since his philosophy is basically Socialist, it will merge with the thinking of many world
communities. Is that good for this country? The people will find out, soon enough. My thinking is that change is coming. Obama in my mind is a result of that change and not the
initiator. The old boys like Thomas Jefferson, dreaming over their campfires at night in a late evening in
Northern Virginia and thinking of the future of a then infant nation, are probably rolling in their
graves.
