My sister, a rabid Republican, married to a rabid Republican ex Marine, sent out a chain e-mail (the Ronald Hess letter) detailing an argument for McCain.

Her Son's response:

I don't understand how voting for McCain amounts to 'getting your country back' when you are handing control to the same party that's been in charge for the past eight years.  The McCain of 2002 was a man I could respect, since then he's done nothing but compromise his political stances to guarantee his nomination.  He freely embraces certifiable nut jobs like Jerry Falwell and his running mate doesn't even believe in evolution.  I'm not going to vote for someone who wants to stick out the war in Iraq over 'honor'; that's not a reason, that's a rationalization.  Our soldiers are being maimed and killed in the some of the most gruesome ways imaginable in a conflict that should have never been fought in the first place, how is that honorable?  How does that respect our troops?  Iraq was never a threat and all the war has served to do is bolster Iran, take away focus  from the *actual* war in Afghanistan, throw our economy to the wolves, and alienate us from the rest of humanity.  McCain's campaign has done nothing but try to bolster this sense of fear that's been crippling every decision we make.  Fear of terrorists, fear of compromise, fear of what happens if it turns out we're wrong, so let's 'stay the course' and never question.  Let's not 'flip flop' because to change our minds in the light of overwhelming fact is to admit defeat.  The worst part about the past eight years has been watching us turn into a nation of cowards.  We let Bush et al. trample over our rights and abuse his power all because we were afraid.  Enough.  ENOUGH.  Our economy IS broken.  There IS devastating climate change.  The war IS a mistake.  We CAN'T let this continue.  I'm done being afraid.

So what kind of 'change' am I looking to see?  The war in Iraq ended.  The wealthy taxed more heavily than the poor.  An energy policy that doesn't just end our dependency on foreign oil, but ensures that in 50 years the air is still fit to breath.  An new education policy that really attempts to fix our schools rather than just dumping more money at them.  A foreign policy that is based on diplomacy and not tyranny. And most importantly,  president who values reason more than fear.

But you do what you want, I voted a week and a half ago.
