There’s one other point I want to make about Hair…from a 21st Century vantage. Each and every time I watched Hair I was aware of the absurdity. That whole era, on both sides of the coin, really. Notions of a meaningful war are just as absurd as the notions of peace, love, dope. But cosmic love (as a sentiment or pursuit) is still in play today in every idea of spirituality. Unless it’s dogma based on bile & hatred; notions that only lend credence to ‘meaningful war’ and division, yet can still gather a willing crowd. For most every notion there is a movement (driven by fear & hate or by enlightened ideas) and loud followers, and so this is our paradox. Gigantic bummer is… it’s typically the movers and shakers ignited by fear and hate that assume the floor and hold it, historically, while the enlightened opt for a more passive one-on-one role that likely could take another century or two to ever get the ball rolling. …………………Go figure.

Hair is incongruous in many ways: From the pregnant girl maybe/probably ‘partaking’ but if not then at least near enough to it for the contact buzz and so goes woes for the innocent fetus. & the word pederasty in the song about sexual freedom IS factually a “nasty” sounding word because it certainly implies abuse. &, later, when Lafayette’s girl & son show up he disses her & (far more gallingly) his innocent son … on the basis of “cosmic love.” But Milos Forman doesn’t hide any of these in excuses; it’s all out there in the open.

The core ideas presented in the movie still hold water in my opinion. & the music is strong. So give it a chance, Andrea. I think you’ll be glad you did. & no doubt Berger will help you on with your joy buzzer
