Your post brings an interesting thought, Andrea.  That is:  what goods and services more properly belong in the public sphere and which in the private?  I think the experiments of the Soviet Union and Mao's China pretty clearly showed what a disaster can come when all of such concentrate in "public" hands.  Likewise, I share your skepticism of the benefit of outsourcing things like police services or building codes.  

One thing I don't believe in is price controls, and since that's primarily what's up with Chavez's seizures, that's why they are a concern.  Theoretically, some sort of balance between power in the public and private spheres ought to be desirable.
