Yes, true. It's gonna be a long, long time--if ever--to get to true quantum computing. What the Yale-heads are speaking of is nice but one beginning, and likely a small one.The world of theoretical work on this front is full of brilliant beyond all measure folks who know how
slow all of this work will go for a good long time--i.e. the rest of the adult lives of generations of
killer great physicist/math god/computer science gods. The writer is not wrong really about what they are saying but there is an optimism in the writing that is
not really bringing the truth of the monumental work (theory and practice) for anything meaningful to
transpire. This sentence---“We’re still far away from building a practical quantum computer, but this is a major step forward.”has been said so many times. Maybe so, maybe not in the least. It's big talking and maybe the author
of the piece should have taken it out. It might have been enthusiasm, which is a terrific thing, often.
And then not, as we all know. This is a lovely sort of phrase in rap or politics, not in science.
